Get back to nature with just a short drive up the Lake Michigan coast! Our first concert of the season takes place at one of the most verdant and stress-relieving landscapes in the Chicagoland area, the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve, where we’ll unveiling the world premiere of Tonia Ko’s Plain, Air.
A truly unique concert experience, you’ll be surrounded by Clara, Maeve, and Doyle playing as we all stroll beneath the trees and amongst the prairie grasses toward the outdoor stage, where Russ awaits us. Inspired by the natural sounds of this very preserve during her site visit last year, Tonia’s Plain, Air weaves electronics with the quartet’s playing in an intimate exchange, heightening your awareness of the soundscape and landscape surrounding you in this idyllic setting.
Says Tonia, “One element of the landscape that I am particularly interested in is way the land slopes down to the water. The area where the steep bluffs begin seems to be the most unique and ecologically fragile part of the preserve, and I’ve transcribed this concept into musical terms.”
Co-presented with Chicago-based conservation organization Openlands, this event features a catered reception and the opportunity to interact with champions and stewards of our local, natural environment.
