The Floating Lounge: The Brahms & Schoenberg Love Affair

  • The comfort of your own home (Zoom) (map)

The Floating Lounge is a community-focused, online listening series produced by Spektral Quartet to bring curious listeners together during a time of isolation. Events will feature high-quality streaming audio, special guests, and an interactive format that invites listeners to join in on the conversation.

Our second episode of The Floating Lounge listening party series surrounds two classical music giants, both of whom are featured on our upcoming double-album this summer: Johannes Brahms and Arnold Schoenberg.

You’ll have insider status for this event, encountering never-heard-before tracks from Brahms’s sumptuous String Quartet No. 1 and Schoenberg’s mind-boggling String Quartet No. 3 – still in the mixing stage with our recording engineer. Not only will you have the opportunity to witness what a track sounds like while still in-process, we’ll also dig into the one-way bromance between Arnie and his idol, Johannes.

For some, Schoenberg is perplexing to listen to, and we think his third quartet is the perfect gateway into his catalog – music that is actually much more engaging than you might expect at first listen. Hearing these pieces back-to-back is a perfect way to not only appreciate one of the 20th century’s most divisive characters, but actually fall in love with his music.

***Doors open at 7:20pm (Central)***
