New Music Help Desk: Audience Edition (feat. Barbara Brotman)

***Please note 4pm start time***

Curious listeners: we heard your feedback and are pleased to bring you a New Music Help Desk just for audience members – a jargon-free, ask-us-anything event where you can finally get an answer to that new-music question you were always too shy to ask. Our friend and board member, Barbara Brotman, is our special guest for this event, and as a former columnist with the Chicago Tribune, she'll keep us on our toes as we field your inquiries.

The New Music Help Desk is a unique opportunity for composers, performers, and listeners to get face time with Spektral – to ask pointed questions about notation, feasibility, tuning systems, harmonics, or simply how to stay motivated in the midst of a quarantine. Our aim is to use our skills to both build community and keep creativity flowing for artists hemmed in by this quarantine.

We will select a few questions in advance and then open it up to attendees using the Zoom Q&A feature. Which is to say, even if yours is not one of the few chosen beforehand, you can still ask us your question live during the event.

A brief hangout – a chance to vent, encourage, and check in – will immediately follow the presentation.

This is frankly a scary time for all of us in the arts. We hope the New Music Help Desk brings at least a little glimmer of hope to our audience, and assistance to our fellow artists.
