The Floating Lounge is a community-focused, online listening series produced by Spektral Quartet to bring curious listeners together during a time of isolation. Events will feature high-quality streaming audio, special guests, and an interactive format that invites listeners to join in on the conversation.
With our appearance at Chicago Humanities Festival just around the corner, we wanted to give you the opportunity to spend more time with our one-of-a-kind composer, Tonia Ko, whose Plain, Air comprises the music for this event.
Some of you may have been lucky enough to catch Tonia playing at the recent Ear Taxi Festival here in Chicago. An exceptional performer (we are major fans of her bubble-wrap virtuosity), Tonia often incorporates non-musical elements in her compositions. In Plain, Air, for instance, a processional or “sound walk” opens the piece, inviting listeners to encounter their surroundings with heightened attention.
So what music moves a multi-dimensional creator like Tonia? You’ll have to RSVP to find out, but we’ll also be soliciting your questions and reactions as we progress through her playlist. It’s all streaming, so you are invited to engage as directly (you chat room ninja) or indirectly (sous vide-ing a Hot Pocket) as you like.
Either way, you are in for some exceptional listening!
