It’s Spektral on (or more accurately behind) the big screen for the first time!
On our last tour before touring came to an abrupt halt, we took a day in Dallas, TX to record Ian Honeyman’s score for the PBS documentary CURED with our dear friend, pianist Daniel Schlosberg. Beyond the excitement in recording our first commercial soundtrack as a quartet, we were immediately captivated by the film and more importantly, the individual stories captured within it.
Watch the trailer
You can watch CURED any time between May 21-27 but our live virtual screening and Q&A panel discussion (via Zoom) is one night only on May 26th. Described as “fascinating” (Hollywood Reporter), “riveting” (The Queer Review) and “one of the best documentaries of this or any year” (British Film Institute) — and the winner of Audience Favorite awards at Frameline, the world’s oldest and largest LGBTQ film festival — CURED takes viewers inside the David-versus-Goliath battle that led the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from its manual of mental illnesses in 1973. The film spotlights a diverse group of activists who achieved this epic victory in the movement for LGBTQ equality. Watch the trailer for CURED.
Registration for the screening is now open. Tickets are $15. Your ticket will include a live screening and Q&A session featuring the co-directors of CURED, Patrick Sammon and Bennett Singer; composer of the score for CURED, Ian Honeyman; activist and film interviewee, Rev. Magora Kennedy; and all of us in Spektral!
While CURED highlights a little-known story from the past, its lessons are profoundly relevant today. Ultimately, the documentary celebrates the pathbreaking contributions of LGBTQ pioneers while demonstrating that even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, determined individuals can work together to create lasting social change. We hope you’ll be able to join us to watch and discuss this inspiring new film!
