The Floating Lounge: The Mischievous Brain of Sam Pluta

  • Zoom (CENTRAL TIME) (map)

The Floating Lounge is a community-focused, online listening series produced by Spektral Quartet to bring curious listeners together during a time of isolation. Events will feature high-quality streaming audio, special guests, and an interactive format that invites listeners to join in on the conversation.

On the shortlist of composers that really get Spektral’s sense of humor and affinity for the weird, Sam Pluta’s name is at or very near the top. He’s also one of the most virtuosic electronic performers we’ve ever seen live, so it is with relish that we invite him to play DJ for a night at the Floating Lounge.

As an in-demand composer and Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Chicago (and longtime member and Technical Director of the amazing Wet Ink Ensemble), Sam can go deep on classical and new music. Couple that with his life inside the experimental music scene and abiding love of pop music, and you have a recipe for one vibrant collection of sonic preferences.

Sam will ferry us through the rapids of some of his favorite tracks before we unveil the soon-to-be released recording of his string quartet, binary/momentary logics: flow state/joy state, which is featured on our upcoming double-album, Experiments in Living.

These Floating Lounge events have done so much to make us feel closer to you, and we appreciate your enthusiastic email feedback. Let’s just say that if you need a bit of whimsy in your life right now, Sam Pluta’s episode is sure to deliver the goods.
